The Law Institute is a scientific research institute, operated by the Faculty of Law at the University of Iceland since 1974.

The main functions of the Institute consists of research and academic publications. The Institute also offers to undertake service projects, often in the form of reports and legal opinions, and hosts seminars, conferences and educational courses.

The Law Institute operates research centers dedicated to specific fields of law. The Institute works closely with academics from the Faculty of Law as well as other research institutions, whether within the University of Iceland or not.
